Edward “Eddie” Bullen is in every way, a standout musical genius among his generation of multifaceted musicians. Over the years, his lengthy career has yielded an abundance of awards and recognition not only for his solo projects but also for directing and producing some of the best work for other artists in the industry. From his first solo album, Nocturnal Affair, to his most recent Desert Rain, Eddie gives his audience a taste of contemporary jazz flavored with the Caribbean and Latin rhythms with a style that is indeed his own.
In August 2009, Eddie Bullen released a Cuban/Jazz album in collaboration with Cuban born Rumberos artist Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo entitled, Havana Nights. The Cuban born Rumberos artist is the son of famed “Brisas de Nipe” former singer, Porfirio Nunez who sang in one of Cuba’s oldest orchestras.
The New York Daily News is quoted as saying, “Eddie Bullen keeps audiences in Canada and throughout the Caribbean on their feet, begging for more with his distinctive style. His compositions are audacious and sexy, titillating the senses…” In the course of his stellar career, some of Eddie’s most notable accomplishments are a JUNO Award for Liberty Silver’s hit single, Lost Somewhere Inside Your Love” in 1984. (The JUNO is the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy). He has been a performer, an arranger, and producer for both Sway’s Juno Award nominated, Hands Up, which was used as the theme music for Club Med’s highly successful TV commercial and went on to garner a Gold plaque.
For the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, he arranged the theme song for the Canadian Gala. Eddie was the Musical Director for the Golden Soul Classics Show in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. The show starred notables like Ben E. King, Percy Sledge, The Platters and Solomon Burke. For the 1996 Para Olympics in Atlanta, he polished the EPP Production for CELEBRATE, and he did the same for the 2004 and 2005 Uptown Jazz Festival in Toronto.
Additionally, Eddie was nominated as the Smooth Jazz Songwriter of the Year with Liberty Silver for the song, Show Me The Way To Love in 2005. Then it was the National Jazz Award for Electric Group of the Year in 2005, and for the UMAC Best Jazz Album with De Organ Grinders in 2005. Then, Smooth Jazz Group of the Year with NEWA in 2005 and Kush in 2006, Smooth Jazz Keyboardist of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, …
At the Beijing Olympics in China, he was the Artistic Director for the EPP Production for The Marriage of Excellence in 2008. And he arranged and produced the theme song for the International Performing Arts for All (IPAFA) concert tours which included Oliver Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Sheila E., Taylor Dayne, Kitorah and Tony Deblois in 2008, also at the Beijing Olympics. Eddie also has a deep commitment to the community as one can always find him performing or supporting community events, foundations or charity organizations. He had launched a high school co-op program to nurture youth talent in 1986. Students work with him at his studio to learn about the music industry.
Since his move to Toronto from Grenada, West Indies in 1980, Eddie has worked with major Canadian jazz artists like Liberty Silver, Marisa Lindsay, and Pop artist Jessica Amaro. He has also composed and arranged for CityTV, YTV, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and TMN (The Movie Network).
Eddie Bullen is the CEO, and creative force behind Thunder Dome Sounds in Toronto Ontario, Canada. He has he collaborates with dozens of successful Hip Hop, Reggae and R&B artists including. Deborah Cox, Rob Christian, Anslem Douglas, Oleta Adams, Alex Walker, Maestro, Selections, George Banton, Raf Robertson, Solitudes, Shaune Ann, Fuez,. Glenn Lewis, Fefe Dobson, Opinion, David Rudder, Dee Bridgewater, Kush, Kingsley Ettienne, Glen Ricketts, David Foster, Carvin Winans and his own international recording artist and author Freddy Will.
