Kalu Abosi
I went through a phase when I read almost everything I could get my hands on. During that time, I found a book by a Nigerian writer. He told a fascinating tale on the secret underworld of the West African occult. In his book, “Born Twice,” he claimed a witch lured him into an unholy city in the underworld. He described it as a spiritual place. They showed him how to drink blood, sacrifice babies, and eat human flesh at that place. According to him, the lady who initiated him also brought him to meet Satan. And he informed him about a pastor in Nigeria who’s healing the sick. The preacher was converting many people to Jesus Christ. He was casting out demons from people they had possessed for a long time.
Abosi said the woman seduced him into witchcraft and led a spiritual committee. This group was filled with other witches from the real world that were also in this underworld. In the book, Kalu Abosi said they apprehended him to give him a new life—the plan for him to be reborn into a specific family. The purpose is to serve as an agent of Satan, from what Abosi described as a big screen-like monitor, where they showed him his new earthly parents. Once they give birth to him, he will carry out his purpose of preventing the preacher from converting more people.

He said they inserted him into his new mother’s womb. She was an active member of the preacher’s church who played a massive role in his success. Kalu himself had already lived before. He already had parents and siblings in the real world. The witch seduced him with romance, but she took him to the underworld once he was smitten. And in the spiritual city, he meets Satan and agrees to a new life in the real world. The unsuspecting mother gave birth to a baby, which was him. But he was conscious of his surrounding as a baby. He said he lived to serve Satan since he was a baby.
According to him, the lady who initiated him also brought him to meet Satan. And he informed him about a pastor in Nigeria who’s healing the sick.
He obstructed the church by opening the door to demons and witchcraft. How the spirits, including Satan and the witch who initiated him, visited him. They gave him specific tasks as he grew up and received his education. He bewitched the pastor and other devout Pentecostals in the region. This book is very dark. It is somewhat of a black vampire-ish type of story. There is a lot of technology, witchcraft, cannibalism, and pandering to the message of Jesus Christ.
I was born Twice, and it introduced me to the horror genre literature. I went on to read metaphysical books on Wicca, Aleister Crowley’s Thelema, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s Theosophical Society, Gerald Gardner’s Gardnerian Wicca, L. Ron Hubbard’s Scientology and Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible and the Church of Satan. In “Born Twice,” Kalu Abosi claimed to have eventually renounced Satan and converted to Christianity. This book had a profound effect on me. It opened my eyes to various Satanic perspectives, allowing me to get the opposite version of the Bible, Quran, and Torah that I’d grown up reading and believing. Unlike poetry and melodrama, romance seemed much more intense in the occult.
Langston Hughes
Regarding socio-political activism, this is the root of my influence. Having an African American grandmother has led me to delve into civil rights activism. Racism has been one of the worst humiliations I’ve had to bear. Yes, I also faced Tribalism in West Africa, but somehow it was not as demeaning as racism. Due to this, I’m naturally drawn to the N.A.A.C.P. and the teachings of Prince Hall, Marcus Garvey, W. E. B Du Boi, and yours sincerely, Langston Hughes.

Some influences inspired my theatric structure, poetry, storytelling, religion, and even occult knowledge, but the civil rights authors gave me passion. His book “Fine Clothes on the Jew” is a poetic rendition that opened my eyes to understand that besides Blacks, Jews were also enslaved people at one point. Indians and Chinese were enslaved too. This is a powerful realization for a black man because it gave me hope that a time will come when black people will be adorned in “Fine Clothes.”
Langston Hughes’ Jazz poetry is the bedrock of today’s spoken word, especially in connection with the Neo-Soul genre of African American Music. Once you open that door, after reading “Let America Be America Again,” “The Weary Blues,” and “Montage of a Dream Deferred’ I had a new appreciation for the Blues. Suddenly, Ray Charles’s music sounded with a more awakened consciousness. As a black Freemason, I understood what may have inspired Dr. King’s dream, The Nation of Islam, Mohamed Ali, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, and the Civil Right Movement.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
My influence from Dr. King is also based on passion. It stems from my connection to Civil Rights, Black Lives Matter, and the N.A.A.C.P. It’s similar to Langston Hughes, but here, Jazz or even Blues are replaced with the type of Christianity I adhere to. I’ve never agreed with the Pentecostal doctrine, but the Baptist and Methodist have profoundly influenced me. Dr. King gave me Civil Right Activism from a Religious Perspective.
I have spent some time reading his speeches. Apart from the fact that they inspired me to improve my vocabulary and wordplay, from a literary standpoint, I also aspired to learn his sentence structures and grammar style. Besides being influenced by his context, I came to admire his delivery. Public speaking is not my strong suit, so I leaned on Dr. King’s preacher-man approach and added that to the tone of my music and my literary work.

Caresse Crosby
The only thing I admire about this author is the same thing that influenced me. What is an author who does not travel and does not have the intensity of life as a romantic extrovert? A writer can not play it safe all the time; he or she must be willing to take some risks with their art. Careese’s personal life was full of adventure. She grew up with blue blood money and had marital problems, but she dated a black guy when it was considered a violation of miscegenation laws. She was also an anti-war activist.

This author also inspired me to be a publisher, to live life to the fullest, and to spend time abroad in other countries like Italy, France, Belgium, England, etc. I want to explore Eastern European countries like Lithuania, Georgia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, etc. According to her biography, Caresse Crosby focused on U.S. experts in France. She used her little-known independent publishing company to publish for others at the time. It has also inspired me to invent since she created the new bra and laid the foundation for little-known authors like me. She has influenced me to develop an adventurous lifestyle.*
