In my latest book, Hiphop KruZade… Path of a Legend, I devoted an entire chapter to Hiphop and Racism. Due to my experience as a master of ceremony, especially after I moved to Canada, I’ve realized that there are racists who hate Hip Hop due to the financial opportunities it provides for black people. That’s because I believe wealth is one of the essential qualities of life. It’s not just about music. It’s also about the Kulture that makes rappers influential. When we talk about rapping, credibility is a vital aspect. With that said, here is my list of who I believe are the top rappers/emcees in the game right now (2015).
I’ve learned that there is no avoiding those people who interpret a rapper’s message as materialism, promoting criminal activity, misogyny, or homophobia. Some say rappers perpetuate black-on-black violence. I think black-on-black violence manifests our disunity as a race. In Canada, my experience taught me to separate my Canadian hustle from my international struggle. I ensure never to seek validation from anyone and never mix outsider perspectives with insider experiences because adhering to criticism can hinder success. How do we find our balance? The top rapper topic came up when I visited Los Angeles.
What’s it like to be from the States while doing Hip Hop in Canada? You face resistance from the homies and the corporate system alike. Of course, I told them about my new book and what I experienced in Canada that’s different – like the deranged folks who called the border trying to get me removed from the country. Or the fun stuff like writing without all the pleasures and distractions in the States. Meanwhile, this article is about Hip Hop musicians who significantly influence the masses. When we set racism aside along with the message in rap music, we can concentrate on the top rappers/musicians in the game.
Can I name Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Rick Ross? Some say since Eminem is Caucasian, he dominates Blacks in the genre we created as other Caucasians did with Jazz/Rock, and Roll. Others do not forgive Rick Ross for being a corrections officer before his rap career. There are a few Hip Hop heads who are skeptical about Drake. Music is an art; street rules should not prevent a talented artist from getting recognition. In 2015, these are some of the best rappers in the game. Their music writing and rapping skills are of the highest caliber. So, with that, I decided to list 10 of my favorite rappers right now…*
